JOIN us for a Public Sea Turtle Release Wednesday, December 7th at Sombrero Beach in Marathon. Bring your family and friends to help cheer for 2 juvenile green sea turtles returning to their ocean home! Doc, a stunning 8 pound turtle was rescued in October off Geiger Key where she was stranded in a flooded ditch after hurricane Ian. Doc was treated at the Turtle Hospital for fibropapillomatosis. Treatment included tumor removal surgery, broad spectrum antibiotics, fluid treatment, vitamins, and a healthy diet of greens and mixed seafood. Frankie, a 35 pound turtle was rescued at the end of August in Marathon, where she was found struggling at the surface. Frankie had suffered an entanglement injury to his front right flipper and had a light load of fibropapilloma tumors. Her treatment at the Turtle Hospital included an amputation surgery, tumor removal surgery, broad spectrum antibiotics, wound care, class 4 laser therapy, fluid treatment, vitamins, and a healthy diet of greens and mixed seafood. Both turtles are back to good health and ready to be returned to the sea! The marine turtles will arrive in the ambulance at 1:10p.m., with release promptly at 1:30 p.m. See you there!
