Mapping Girl Power’s Journey
The Turtle Hospital is celebrating the release of Girl Power, a resilient juvenile green sea turtle whose remarkable recovery has inspired everyone who followed her journey. Rescued in the Upper Keys after being found weak, entangled in fishing line, and suffering from a heavy load of fibropapilloma tumors — including tumors on both eyes — Girl Power underwent months of intensive care including disentanglement, multiple tumor‑removal surgeries, chemotherapy eye drops, antibiotics, fluids, vitamins, and a healthy diet of greens and mixed seafood. Against the odds, she made a full recovery and regained clear vision, strength, and mobility. Girl Power will return to the ocean on July 10th as The Turtle Hospital’s official entrant in Tour de Turtles, fitted with a satellite transmitter so the public can follow her migration and cheer her on as she begins this exciting new chapter.
