Reason for visit: Predator Attack
Location found: Duck Key
Status Report
- 9/5/2025- Meet Mossy! a juvenile green sea turtle that was recused when a resident paddle boarding spotted him with a severe predator attack. Sadly, a small part of his intestines was on the outside of his body, but with the help our amazing medical staff were able to gently push the intestines back inside his body. After stabilizing Mossy’s wound with an orthopedic plate to keep the wound closed he received and exam and was taken to a rehabilitation tank for some needed rest.
- 9/8/2025- Mossy is responding well to treatment and we are cautiously optimistic that he will make a full recovery. Mossys treatments have included wound care, stabilization of carapace (shell), broad spectrum antibiotics, pain meds, fluids, and vitamins. He’s been receiving daily wound care and bandage changes. He has also been defecating normally, and we are trying to encourage him to eat.
- 10/16/2025- Dr. Terry Norton is in town this week! Mossy had received some more wound care treatment; he is healing well and was able to get his orthopedic plate removed from his carapace (shell). We are still trying to encourage eating.
