Status Report
- 05/28/2026 Meet Mikey, a juvenile green sea turtle, was rescued from sargassum weed off Key West after being found lethargic, debilitated, and covered in heavy fibropapilloma tumors. Our rescue team transported him to the Turtle Hospital for a full intake exam, where our veterinary staff completed photos, measurements, and X‑rays to assess his condition. A CT scan was also performed to better understand the extent of the disease. The good news is that Mikey’s CT scan showed no internal tumors, giving this little fighter a real chance to heal. He is now receiving supportive care as our team works to stabilize him and begin his recovery journey.
- 06/25/2026 Mikey has been showing us some encouraging signs this week! We’re excited to share that he’s now actively foraging for food at the bottom of his tank and was even found resting flat on the bottom instead of floating. These may seem like small milestones, but for a turtle battling buoyancy issues and extensive fibropapilloma tumors, they’re incredibly important steps in the right direction.
