- 7/30/2029 Meet Familia! a female loggerhead sea turtle who was rescued after a devastating boat strike. We’re incredibly grateful to the rescuers, everyone who kept watch to make sure she was safely recovered, and FWC for helping save her. The strike breached her lungs, and she’ll undergo a CT scan to determine whether her spinal column was also injured and whether she has a chance at survival.
- 7/31/2026 Familia’s CT scan has brought us some hopeful news today; the boat propeller nicked her spinal column but thankfully removed bone fragments from her injury before packing the wound. We’ll also be removing her barnacles, so we have a clean surface for her wound VAC bandages to adhere properly.
