A couple from Ft Lauderdale were vacationing at the Rainbow Bend Resort on Grassy Key and walked out to the water after breakfast where they found a juvenile Green Sea Turtle washed up on the beach.
The 44 pound turtle had mono filament fishing line wrapped around it’s head and front flippers.
Petrie also has fibropapilloma tumors on the neck and flippers. Surgery is scheduled to do an endoscope procedure (to ensure there are no internal tumors) and to remove the external tumors.

Petrie has died. Necropsy found pneumonia (probably from inhaling water while entangled) and heavy scarring to the intestines (possible from ingested fishing line).
