Smithers Released

The Turtle Hospital has released the last hatchling of nesting season. Smithers, a hatchling Hawksbill was discovered near shore by Smathers Beach most likely disoriented by lighting from nearby homes. The exhausted baby turtle was a rare find considering there is only one known female Hawksbill that nests in all The Florida Keys. Rescued in April, Smithers spent 7 months at the hospital re cooperating and growing strong enough to return home.

On November 18th, Turtle Hospital Rehabilitation Specialist Tara Vickrey released the now post-hatchling sea turtle near The Content Keys.
