Public Sea Turtle Release

Public Sea Turtle Release 11/18

We survived Irma and have something to celebrate! Please join us for a public sea turtle release Saturday November 18th at Sombrero Beach in Marathon at 10:30 am!

Bring your family and friends! Judah, an 80 pound sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle was rescued off of Islamorada oceanside in July where the Hill family found him floating and unable to dive. They gave up a day of fishing offshore to rescue Judah. Judah was lethargic and underweight. Judah’s treatment included broad spectrum antibiotics, liver supplements, vitamins, and anti-parasitic meds. Judah received IV nutrition and oral tube feeding for over a month before he started to eat squid and fish. He is now healthy and ready to return to the sea! Judah will arrive in the turtle ambulance at 10:30 am, with release promptly at 11 am.

Please note: Sombrero beach is still closed, so the release will be off the end of the beach where the ramp is located at the circle. Parking is limited due to beach closure and recovery efforts.
