• 03/10/2026 Meet Girl Power a juvenile green sea turtle admitted to the turtle hospital yesterday she was rescued in the Upper Keys where she was found entangled in fishing line and with a heavy load of Fibropapilloma tumors. Girl Power is surprisingly string in addition to the entanglement injuries; she ingested fishing line. Dr. Terry Norton carefully removed the fishing line restricting Girl Powers flippers.
• 04/18/2026 Girl Power took a road trip yesterday to Pinecrest Veterinary Hospital, where Dr. Karpinski skillfully removed the fibropapilloma tumors from her eyes. These tumors can cloud a turtle’s vision and make it difficult for them to navigate or forage, so this procedure was an important step in her recovery. Thanks to surgery, Girl Power now has clear corneas, giving her a much brighter outlook as she continues healing back at the Turtle Hospital.
• 06/13/2026 Girl Power had a check‑up with Dr. Terry yesterday afternoon, and we’re happy to report that she remains tumor‑free and is healing beautifully. She is still receiving her chemotherapy eye drops, but everything is moving in the right direction, and her progress continues to encourage our team.
• 06/24/2026 Girl Power has her swim papers! Her pre‑release exam with Dr. Terry was a complete success, and she’s officially been cleared for release. With just a little more healing left to go, this former fibropapilloma tumor patient is getting ready for her next big adventure.This year, Girl Power will be the Turtle Hospital’s entrant in Tour de Turtles, an exciting migration‑tracking event hosted by the Sea Turtle Conservancy. Beginning July 10th, you’ll be able to follow her journey through satellite telemetry and see just how far this incredible sea turtle travels once she returns to the wild.Girl Power’s story has been one of strength, resilience, and hope — and now her next chapter is about to begin.
• 07/10/2026 Today was the big day for Girl Power! just a few months ago she had arrived at the Turtle Hospital fighting for her life. She was entangled in fishing line, has ingested fishing line, and was covered in fibropapilloma tumors. Through months of dedicated rehabilitation, surgeries, medications and expert vet care, Girl Power made an incredible transformation! she was surrounded by an amazing community of supporters; she returned to her ocean home as the Turtle Hospitals official entrant in this year’s Tour de Turtles! Before her release, Girl Power was fitted with a satellite transmitter so we can follow her incredible migration and cheer her on from shore as she beings this exciting new chapter.
