On August 25, Dr. Kristin Hall from Marathon Veterinary Hospital performed surgery on four green sea turtles:
Dr. Hall (pictured above with Izzy) was able to remove dead tissue and bone from the wound left behind from a boat strike . This procedure will help to promote healthy growth of the skin inside the cavity. Although Izzy is not currently using his left front flipper, daily physical therapy should advance the use of his muscles again.
After Izzy, Dr. Hall removed a small fragment of bone from Corona’s face that was barely attached by connective tissue. Although this area was extremely close to her beak, she is eating and swimming well in a recovery tank.
