Rescuers: Grace and Claire Holman, and also Anna Skochdopole
On December 30 these three ladies found a very special surprise in the canal behind the resort they were staying in. What they found was a post-hatchling hawksbill sea turtle. Earlier in the week they had visited our facility and learned what to do if they find a sea turtle. They called us and sure enough this little post-hatchling was misplaced from his or her normal habitat. He was lost due to the winds blowing him a stray. When asked what they wanted to name this little one they agreed upon “Ace”. Ace is now back at the Turtle Hospital, doing fantastic, and eating tiny bits of squid with a healthy appetite. We will keep Ace here until conditions are right for his release; However, he is perfectly healthy and just needs help finding his way again. We will release him by boat into the proper nursery ground for post-hatchlings.
