JOIN us for a very special Public Sea Turtle Release Thursday,
January 30th at the Islander Resort, 82100 Overseas Hwy, Islamorada. Drifter, a sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle was rescued in November of last year off of Bahia Honda where he was found floating, unable to dive. A recreational boater had spotted Drifter and called Florida Fish and Wildlife who assisted with the on water rescue. Drifter was taken to the Turtle Hospital for rehabilitation. Treatment at the Turtle Hospital included broad spectrum antibiotics, fluid treatment, vitamins and a healthy diet of fish and squid. Drifter is back in good health and will be returned to his ocean home in conjunction with an Animal Liberation ceremony with the Tibetan Monks who are visiting the Keys from Drepung Gomang monastery in India. Drifter will arrive in the turtle ambulance at 10:00 a.m., with release promptly at 11:00 a.m. See you there!
More information on the Animal Liberation Ceremony can be found here:https://samyeinstitute.org/philosophy/life-release/
The turtles we rescue, rehabilitate and release are protected by Federal and local laws. Sea turtles are protected because in years past man slaughtered sea turtles to near extinction.
