The annual Sea Turtle Workshop was hosted by the Turtle Hospital on December 6 and 7. This workshop gathers people together from all over the world, who work with sea turtles in the medical, rehabilitation, captive and long term care fields and provides a forum to share ideas, procedures, cases and techniques.
On the first day of the workshop, presentations geared to sea turtle medicine, rehabilitation, captive care, captive diet and interesting cases were given. This year had 23 interesting and informative talks.
The second day are the wet and dry labs. The dry lab was with Dr. Jeanette Wyneken and Dr. Douglas Mader and focused on anatomy/physiology of sea turtles.
The wet lab was “Sea Turtle Necropsy and Proper Biopsy/Sampling Collecting” with Dr. Brian Stacy from the University of Florida. There were 11 specimens, representing 3 species, ranging in size from 6 to 100 pounds.
Much thanks to 100+ who attended and made the Workshop successful!
