Sunday March 15 at 11:30 am at Sombrero Beach
Please join us on Sombrero Beach this Sunday, March15th at 11:30 a.m. for a public sea turtle release! Kokomo, a sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle is swimming strong and ready to go back to his ocean home. On Saturday, February 28th, a fisherman snagged Kokomo while fishing off of the 7 mile bridge and called for help. We were so thankful that he called the stranding phone, if he had decided to cut the fishing line, this turtle likely would have swallowed the excess line or at least would have become entangled in it. The fishing hook was successfully removed from the turtle’s flipper and Kokomo was treated with a broad spectrum antibiotic. Kokomo is very active and hopes to see you on Sombrero Beach this Saturday! The Turtle Hospital ambulance will arrive at the beach at 11:30 a.m. and Kokomo will be released back into the wild promptly at 12:00 p.m.
