07/21/24: While out enjoying a day of paddle boarding, a couple soon became turtle rescuers as they spotted a young Green Sea Turtle in distress. Entangled in fishing line on her neck and front flippers, she was found very critical, floating at the surface of the water. When the couple got closer they soon saw she was also missing an eye and covered in tumors. They made the call for our rescue and rehab team to come and help save the newly named “Kelly”. Upon arrival, the rehab team got to work in removing the tightly wound fishing line. Kelly’s shell is also very dirty with algae, a clear sign Kelly has not been feeling very well for a while now. As a healthy sea turtle will be able to maintain their shell by rubbing it on surfaces at the seafloor and having other smaller fish clean the shell. Kelly will be cared for around the clock by her rehab team, ensuring she receives all she needs as she begins her journey to a tumor free life and someday back to the ocean.
