Thanks to The Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center in Stuart Florida, Illiana has a new home.
Rescued in 2008, the sub adult Loggerhead had suffered a boat hit in her past and was left permanently floating. There currently is no cure for bubble butt syndrome (or floating turtle syndrome). The best treatment The Turtle Hospital can provide these buoyant sea turtles is comfort by gluing weights to the their shells to help them dive. Although the weights provide comfort, they are not a permanent fix. Therefore patients who suffer from bubble butt syndrome must live at The Turtle Hospital or another facility for the rest of their lives. Illiana, now named Lily, has a new home where she can live out the rest of her life.
