Izzy, who recently underwent surgery at The Turtle Hospital with Dr. Kristin Hall on August 25, is recovering wonderfully from his boat strike wound. He has recently begun to eat on his own after weeks of intensive care and tube feeding. We continue to clean the wound and monitor his behavior in the tank. Although the wound is healing quickly, it will be quite a long time before the missing shell will granulate in with scar tissue. Only at that point will we know for sure if Izzy will be able to use the left front flipper. Izzy is clearly a survivor, and we have all grown to love him for his will to live through a very severe boat hit injury.
