Public Sea Turtle Release

Leanna’s Release!

After just over two months in rehabilitation, Leanna, an adult Hawksbill was returned to the wild. She was originally found off of Pumpkin Key in early June, severely entangled in a rope attached to a heavy cement crab trap. Her flipper was so badly damaged that it needed to be amputated at The Turtle Hospital by Dr. Cathy of MVH. Her wound healed nicely and she was able to swim straight even without one of her front flippers. It was a beautiful day at Bahia Honda State Park on August 23rd where a big crowd gathered to say goodbye!
