George a 7-pound Green sea turtle was rescued on Feb 17th from New Smyrna Beach, Florida. George was transfered to the Turtle Hospital and found to be lethargic, heavily encrusted with small barnacles, suffering from an impact (boat prop strike) to the carapace(shell), and even infected with Fibropapilloma! This poor little guys has been through a lot, but is currently on the road to recovery! When George first got here staff removed the barnacles that were covering his little body. George has already had surgery to remove his Fibropapilloma tumors and is now continuing to heal the boat strike wound to the back of the shell. Because of that wound George is still floating a little bit so is being given anti-biotics as well as lots of love an care from the Hospital Staff. Once George’s wounds heal completely he will be put in a larger holding area with other recovering Fibropapilloma turtles where he will wait for one year to ensure no more tumors grow on his soft tissue!
